“Canada’s First and Only Figure Event without heels”

Overview
Requirements
Judging Guidelines

The Athletic-Physique Challenge (Figure) category varies from the female Bodybuilding category in two very important ways: The amount of Muscle Mass and the Degree of Definition.   (See Judging Guidelines for details)

In general terms, competitors in this category should not have the bulk of a bodybuilder; however hardness and definition are still requirements. Additionally, competitors are expected to have low levels of body fat; however, they should retain a body fat level which allows them to retain their ‘figure or shape’.  See sample photos below.

Category Overview

The Athletic-Physique Challenge (Figure) category is divided into three rounds – The Symmetry Round, the Posing Round, and the Comparisons Round

As described above, athletes of this category should possess less muscle mass and less definition then is expected in the bodybuilding category.  The Athletic-Physique Challenge (Figure) category also provides athletes with the opportunity to express more individuality and femininity while on stage then in the women’s bodybuilding category.  According, competitors of this category may:

  • Pose with hands "open", not clenched
  • Wear jewelry, hair and body decorations
  • Select posing suits that are any cut, style (no thongs or pasties) and colour

SPECIAL NOTE:  The “natural lines” of the competitor’s physique is an important part of assessment; therefore, all athletes are required to compete in bare feet while on stage.

Category Requirements

1)   Competitors will perform a 90-second routine. (See Evening Finals and the Event Requirements section for additional details).
2)   During the Symmetry Round (quarter turns), athletes may twist their physique, as well as raise the back of their feet off the floor as is required to best present the natural lines of their physique (Note: The Head Judge may ask for a ‘straight line-up’ if required.)
3)  During the Posing and Comparisons Rounds, judges will be looking for a “lean and shapely physique with muscle development” rather then “muscle mass” and “a high-degree of definition”; therefore, figure competitors will be asked to perform the following five poses ONLY.  Additionally, athletes may perform these with their hands “open” (not clenched) during posing:

  • Front-Double Biceps
  • Chest/Bicep (any side),
  • Rear-Double Biceps
  • Most Symmetrical
  • Thigh/Abdominal Crunch

4)  All competitors of this category are required to abide by the same drug testing rules, and competition regulations that are set out for athletes of the bodybuilding category, unless otherwise specified in this section
